Why is our Tiger, called Tiger?

Founded in 1688, The Royal Leicestershire Regiment served with distinction around the world, and in 1825 it became known by its famous nickname "The Tigers".  Over the years they were awarded an incredible 73 Battle Honours dating from the Battle of Namur in 1695 to the campaign in Korea in 1952.
